These two rock climbers from Edmonton knew they wanted to get married in the mountains.  They looked at a lot of venues but in the end Island Lake Lodge, near Fernie, B.C. won their heart.  Island Lake is world famous for it’s Catskiing and also runs a great summer program for hikers.  They openly welcome weddings during the summer season and have some of the best food I have tasted at any wedding venue I have ever worked at.  If you are looking for a casual, laid back venue in the mountains, but far away from the tourists and craziness of the parks, then this might be your venue!

First though, here are a few from their engagement session.  The base of Mt. Yamnuska seemed like a very fitting location for these two so that’s where we’ll start this post.

If you are planning a mountain wedding it’s a good idea to get comfortable with the fact that your dress hemline will get dirty.While we were doing a few portraits with the Bride and Groom the guest were enjoying the afternoon and some of the entertainment that was set-up.
